Maintaining Appropriate Adult-Student Interactions
San José Unified is committed to providing a safe, positive, and respectful learning environment for every student. Employees, interns, volunteers, contractors, and other adults acting in a District-related role are expected to maintain professional and ethical boundaries in all interactions with students, both during and outside the school day.
Adults must avoid conduct that is threatening, unsafe, unlawful, overly familiar, or unrelated to a legitimate educational purpose. This includes inappropriate physical contact, personal or private communications, inappropriate relationships, favoritism, harassment, discrimination, abuse, or other conduct that compromises student safety or trust. Electronic communication with students must follow District policy and use District-approved platforms when available.
Anyone with a concern about an adult’s interaction with a student should contact the school principal or District administration. Retaliation against anyone who reports a concern is prohibited.
